Osorio: ‘Working very hard’ to finalize three acquisitions
By Nathaniel E. Baker • Mar 26th, 2008 • Category: TransfersNew York Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio today confirmed rumors that the team is close to signing additional, possibly big-name players for the 2008 campaign. Though both Osorio and sporting director Jeff Agoos declined to provide names, Osorio for the first time disclosed the number of acquisitions (three), their positions (center-back, left-back and left midfield) as well as a few other details. He also hinted that announcements could be imminent.
Speaking to ASN at the team’s annual media day, Osorio said two players were from South America with the third based in Europe. “We are working very hard to bring those players in,” he said. “The positions are left-footed central defender, left-footed wide midfielder and a central defender.”
Of the center-back, Osorio said he is “a very defensive-minded central defender who can regain posssession, spray the ball about and will give us that balance, as a team.” The wide midfielder “will produce a lot of crosses, go into the attacking third and hopefully produce a lot of situations for us to score goals.”
Osorio declined to identify the players’ nationalities but said “very soon you will know exactly where the players are from.”
