Red Bulls stifle Rapids, 1-1

Perhaps taking a page from the U.S. national team’s performance at the 2010 World Cup, the New York Red Bulls recovered after a very weak start to salvage a point at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Sunday night. Juan Pablo Angel found the scoresheet again, equalizing off a corner kick to allow the team to earn a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids. It was the captain’s fifth goal in the last five MLS games. John Wolyniec scored his third and fourth goals of the U.S. Open Cup qualifying campaign and the New York Red Bulls coasted to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Red Bull Arena Wednesday night. With the victory the Red Bulls advances to the tournament’s third round, where they will play later this summer against a team yet to be determined. Rapids outshoot Red Bulls in sloppy night at the Swamp

The Colorado Rapids defeated the New York Red Bulls 5-4 in a rainy Saturday night game that was marked by defensive lapses on both sides. “Very disappointed,” said New York head coach Juan Carlos Osorio, summarizing his feelings of New York’s first home loss since May. “Atrocious defending…we got the worst of it: no points.”

A sell-out crowd at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park watched the home team Colorado Rapids dominate the visiting Red Bulls from the kickoff to the final whistle on Friday night. Four Rapids scored in the July 4 fireworks display, with Tom McManus getting the party started in the 24th minute.
